Getting Back To It

Image
I dropped the ball on this blog and the Facebook page. Life and chronic illness got in the way. Now I find myself struggling to feed my family because of a cost of living crisis and in my own house an unexpected employment crisis. This has had made me revisit my original page and blog ideas.  Bottom line is I now have to figure out how to feed my family of three for €60 or less a week.  Can it be done? I'm not actually sure. It's worth noting that I lucky do currently have a full freezer, a large bag of rice from Asia market, herbs and spices and a cupboard full of beans, lentils and chickpeas. These won't last forever so I know as the weeks go on things will get harder as my supplies dwindle.  Over the next few months I'm going to endeavour to try and share how we are going to cope with this fall in our income. I hope to share recipes and the little things I'm doing to save money and cut down on food waste. If you have any tips you want to share with me...

World Coffee Day

Image
October 1st is World Coffee Day. Let's face it most people enjoy a nice cup of coffee first thing in the morning. For some it's that much needed jolt they need to get thier day off on the right footing. For others it's a nice treat on a cold autumn day. Unless you have your own machine most of us do prefer an expertly made cup of coffee over a cup of instant. Even I the lady who drinks Tea by the bucket load everyday can't deny the allure of a decent latte. Plus coffee smells amazing it really is a feast for the senses. The problem with our coffee obsession is that we go through an estimated 22,000 disposable cups every hour in Ireland . I shit you not, even I was shocked by that figure. Sure it's no big deal right? They can be recycled? Well channeling my inner Dwight Shrute/Recyclatron I'm going to have to say "FALSE", they often can't or don't get recycled because they are made up of mixed materials paper, pl...

Introduction

Introducing my new Adventure. Waste Not Want Not will be a documentation of my minimal waste journey. I say minimal waste rather than zero waste because I don't believe that anyone is so perfect that they produce absolutely zero waste.  The idea of this blog is to show people what it's like to try to lower your environmental impact in the largest town and smallest county in Ireland. This blog is not set out to be preachy it's set up to show the reality of what the average Joe soap trying to do better can do and the problems they may meet along the way. While hopefully having a bit of craic while you follow it. I have not reached any level of perfection yet. I am very much at the beginning of this journey so I welcome your advice but please be kind in your comments and bare in mind that we all had to start somewhere. Kindest, Jen Follow me on Facebook Check out my Instagram Story
